The Virtues at OLPH
At Our Lady of Perpetual Help, we are excited to expand our House System through a deeper focus on the Cardinal Virtues. This month, we are spotlighting Prudence, often called the "mother of virtues," as it helps guide the way we practice all the others.
The Cardinal Virtues—Courage, Temperance, Justice, and Prudence—teach us that virtue is often found in the balance, or "golden middle," between extremes. For example, Courage is not recklessness (too much!) or cowardice (too little!), but strength in the face of fear or other adversity (just right, like Goldilocks). Temperance is not rigid self-denial, but more a healthy moderation. And Justice is not favoritism, but fairness and respect for the dignity and well-being of all.
Prudence helps us recognize all these balances, guiding us to act wisely in every situation (unless, of course, we abandon Prudence). Throughout the month of October, our students will explore how Prudence shapes their decisions and daily actions within their Houses and beyond, helping them grow as young people of faith and virtue.
We look forward to seeing how our students learn and rise to this challenge.
